Manufacturers are subject to FDA regulations that ensure a product is safe for a consumer to use. However, some product defects could go undetected by the company or governmental agency and pose a risk to the customer. Product recalls protect buyers from these defects, unfortunately, a product recall may come too late and consumers may have already suffered serious or fatal injuries. Often these injuries are what alert the FDA to investigate the product’s safety and demand a recall.
Johnson & Johnson Baby Powder
In October of 2019, Johnson & Johnson recalled a lot from their famous baby powder after the FDA found small traces of asbestos in one bottle. The company immediately recalled all bottles in that lot as a precautionary measure. Johnson & Johnson is currently facing thousands of product liability lawsuits against their baby powder and other products containing talc. Plaintiffs claim that their products contributed to their cancer, including ovarian cancer. Consumers who believe their illness was caused by a product from Johnson & Johnson should contact a product liability attorney to help them with a legal claim against the company.
Tris Pharma Infant Ibuprofen
Tris Pharma voluntarily recalled their Infant Ibuprofen Concentrated Oral Suspension due to a higher concentration of ibuprofen that could be dangerous for its consumers. Infants that consume the recalled product could experience nausea, vomiting, headaches or diarrhea. No injuries were reported, and the company advised consumers to stop using the product and contact a healthcare provider if their children exhibit any adverse reaction after using the medicine.
Fisher-Price Rock n’ Play Sleepers
Fisher-Price’s Rock n’ Play Sleepers were recalled in April of 2019 after reports of babies dying while using it. The inclined sleepers caused babies to roll over while asleep and suffocate. The recall notice stated that since 2009 there have been over 30 reported infant fatalities caused by the inclined sleeper.
According to Consumer Reports, 4.7 million Fisher-Price sleepers were recalled to protect consumers from suffering the unfortunate loss of their child. Consumers were advised to immediately stop using the product and seek a refund if available.
Bullseye Playground Toys
About half a million wooden toys sold at Target were recalled to prevent children from suffering injuries. The small wheels on the Bullseye Playground wooden toys could detach and were a potential choking hazard for children. The toys were sold exclusively at Target during October and November of 2018, and the company offered customers a full refund.
Eddie Bauer Infant Carriers
In October of 2018, about 22,000 Infant Carriers sold at Target from the Eddie Bauer brand were recalled due to safety concerns. The buckles were defective and could break, potentially causing children who were strapped in to fall out. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission advised the public to stop using the product and ask the manufacturer for a full refund or a replacement.
If you own a product that is involved in a recall, make sure you follow the company or governmental agency’s instructions on what do. Depending on the recall and the type of product you may be entitled to a refund, a replacement or a free repair to replace any defective parts.
